Question is, say if you did that, could you run the DSD through the phono input?
Bill, perhaps I need to asking the question in this way, are you able to create and save files to a storage device? Or, is this a playback only mechanism?

Yes, I believe you can and SD cards are recommended as one method. Steve Deckert uses this device to record his master reel to reel tapes to DSD playback. What I'm not sure of is if there are any additional tweeking needed before playback from a PC/Server/DAC. But it doesn't seem like it from what I'm gathering.

You can always give Steve D a call ... he loves to talk about his stuff and answer questions.

Here is more thinking out-loud.

Is DSD from the internet worth it?

There is no provided physical backup, Online stores tell you to "get bent" if you lose your file. See their policy- my words of get bent.
  • Most DSD is sourced from PCM.
  • Most PCM is sourced from Analog Tape.
  • Most Vinyl is sourced from Analog Tape.
  • Most SACDs are source from PCM
  • Again, Most PCM is sourced from Analog Tape.

You see where I am going?

By using the LP Vinyl Disc (with the coloration or electromechanical noise from the playback system) to archive/rip to DSD you preserve the recording at a very high standard, one that PCM may not achieve.

  1. Drop a disc on the MT-10.
  2. Turn the knob to the phono input on C1000.(Have the ZDSD/Teac DA-3000 connected to the CD-R or Server inputs and outputs.)
  3. Press record (set the record levels low enough to not clip).
  4. Lower the Needle.
  5. Flip side.
  6. Press stop on the recorder.
  7. put SD in the computer (or Micro SD card w/ adaptor into the AK240)
  8. Enjoy!

If you set the recorder up right, each track will be automatically split based on your preset levels of when the levels drop below a user defined point.
One MAJOR flaw!

You can't edit the DSD file for pop's, crackle, hiss, and any other alterations!
No software that an human can afford to edit! You might as well stay in PCM mode and record 24bit 96Khz and use AIFF format for tagging. Just dump the notion of lossless, just one more sound factor to deal with.
