Default DIY Record Cleaner ie VPI knock off

I was ask to post pictures......

1. Dirty LP!
2. Add homemade cleaning solution.
3. Scrub.....
4. SUCK it dry!
5. Add Distill water for final rinse.
6. Scrub some more........
7. SUCK it dry again! "lucky LP grumble grumble"
8. Nice and clean...

This removes I'm guessing 95% of all gunk on the LP. If the LP is really fouled I'll use the portable steam cleaner, and do a repeat of steps 1 thru 6 again. I built this for about $80.00 (USD). In the pictures you can see what I used for it's construction. The nozzles are hand made PVC pipes. I've clean about 700 LP's with only one slight mishap. When a LP get's time in the cleaner. What can I say I just DON'T HEAR any pops, clicks or static. When I do hear some back into the cleaner. Then a little more elbow grease this time. If still present either live with it or replace the LP. In 700 LP's I had make that choice on 11 albums. Then I start my conversion onto my music server. I chuckled when my CD snob were over while playing cards asking what CD is that when Squeezebox is on. When I show them and say the magic words "CD's don't always sound better then LP's". Then it's on!! I even show them I also have CD's loaded onto it. Still the disbelief and muttering as if I've done some evil mind trick!!!

Thanks, Ken

Nice DIY machine, although for me there is just something very counter intuitive about these VPI style RCMs, which is placing the cleaned side down onto the surface of the platter where the dirty side was just on.

I think I'd prefer the Nitty Gritty type, where the only place the record comes into contact with the machine is the label area and the mouth of the vacuum .

But that's just my preference

I have a few spare cork mats for my VPI Typhoon and I switch them between sides if it is a dirty record that goes on.

So very true and I agree with you. I do have a white spacer that keeps the LP off the bottom.

Thanks, Ken

I also got an extra cork mat when I purchased the 16 and always use it after I clean Side A so that the clean side always is placed on a clean mat. It has just become part of the ritual.
