Default Silver Eclipse 5.2 Speaker Cables

I just receive my new Silver Eclipse Wire World Speaker Cables from Ivan on Monday and I was able to give them a listen to last night for a bit. These actually belonged to Ivan and had less than an hour's use, so, they are new.

I wanted to share my first impressions of these speaker cables.

I selected a Latin Guitar Music CD that I have and powered the MCD500 and sat back for a listen.

My first reaction was not as favorable as you might think. I felt that the sound was subdued, quiet, choked even. I reached for the remote to turn up the volume but looking that it was set at my favorite listening level, I stopped and decided to listen for a few minutes. I am glad I did.

First, these speaker cables sound quite different from the Nordost Blue Heavens which I have had for several years now. What I had percieved as 'subdued' was in fact, quiet. There is no doubt these cables are not as forward, or as present as the Nordost and I think that is why my first reaction was puzzlement. I guess they are more 'laid back', if I'm using the correct terminology and if I've assessed them correctly.

As I continued to listen, I found myself being engaged in a way that I haven't been before. I was drawn to the sound of the guitars and since there was more than one guitar I was shifting the focus of my attention first to one guitar and then the other. I found myself relaxing and simply letting the music and atmosphere take me in. I felt that the stage was deeper and slightly wider. As I continued to enjoy I realize that the guitars sounded more and more like real guitars. I wasn't listening to my 'sound' system I was listening to music, to the instruments... that's when I smiled.. truly..

I asked my wife to come and lend me her ear for a moment and to tell me if she could hear the difference... the first words out of her mouth were, "Yes, the music seems quieter and not as annoying.. I could tell the difference from upstairs. She too mentioned that the music seemed quieter, yet better.

So, I changed CD's and put on a song I know rather quite well, Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven from his 'Unplugged' CD. Now, I became truly impressed, the definition and realism were certainly better then I have heard before.

I found this rather interesting because I truly do like Nordost, and I was apprehensive I would not hear much of difference. My apprehension was premature. As I continued to listen to various pieces of music last night I noticed, that I wasn't getting tired in any way.

So, are the WW better than Nordost? I'm not sure I am truly qualified to answer that directly, and I suppose a fairer test would have been to compare the WW to one of Nordost's Reference level cables. I know I was seriously contemplating the Heimdall's to replace the Blue Heavens, especially since I have Heimdall interconnects. However, bottom line, I sincerely enjoyed what I heard last night and I am eagerly anticipating what I will get once the cables are properly broken in.

At this point, I am very pleased with what I purchased.

Thanks again Ivan.
