Default Bought records for the first time since 1987

After reading about reputable sources of good vinyl pressings, I went to Acoustic Sounds and ordered the following LPs (180 gram):

Carlos Kleiber/Beethoven
Symphony No. 5

Carlos Kleiber/Beethoven
Symphony No. 7

Paul Simon
Graceland

John Mellencamp
Uh-Huh

The Allman Brothers Band
Eat a Peach

Prince and the Revolution
Purple Rain

An eclectic mix of music for sure. I have all these in digital format ranging from CD to 24 bit 192kHz. I bought the LPs to compare the sound to my digital files l play thru my Totaldac DAC. My turntable hasn't arrived yet, and these LPs will take a few days to arrive as well. I'll follow up with comparisons of digital vs analog versions of these albums.

Looking forward to hearing about your digital to analogue comparisons. Although I enjoy SACD's via an Ayre C-5xeMP I still mostly prefer the vinyl copy. I did similiar tests recently with vinyl from Analog Spark (a good service to the UK). Its a fun occupation.

A fair few years ago( 90's and early 2000's), I had a friend who had hundreds of old and mostly mono jazz, rock and roll and doo wop albums in the main and simply never changed to CD's. He wasn't missing out in the slightest.

Don't forget that new LPs benefit from a thorough cleaning to remove any surface noise. Enjoy!!

That’s a great selection to get started with your new analog rig.

Excellent mix of records on order!

Be sure to pay high attention to setup of your TT/Cartridge to maximize the sonic output. Cartridge will need some settle in time for the cantilever, depending on your choice about 20-30 hours.

Have fun!

Yong - Since you are into vinyl now, check out the offerings from Analogue Productions.

I especially recommend some of their Reiner/ Chicago Symphony RCA Living Stereo releases. I have some in SACD and they are quite remarkable.

If you like jazz -- this will transport you back to the 50's in a crowded, drink laden, smokey small bar (I don't have this one -- but have the Boxcar which is OOP & expensive). This will do just fine since it's AP, 45rpm, 200g.

Best Sir,

Bob
