Congrats on the amps Dale. I preferred the Cortese to the also very engaging Montille.
Both were well broken in dealer demos. No question a nice upgrade IMHO. Give that baby time to settle in. Time is a healer (-:

Yes congratulations! I remember someone posting that initially they regretted buying the Cortese after listening during the burn-in period, but afterwards the patience paid off in spades.

I'm also considering moving to either the O96 or the Cortese. My current setup are the Nines and the Leben CS600. As much as I've read about Shindo electronics and the few times I've heard them I have been pleased, but no doubt I think upgrading the speaker would have a bigger impact on the sound and position me for the Cortese in the future.

I'm trying to dig up as much literature and comparisons between the Nines and the O96s to see what I'm getting myself into. A demo would be great but alas no dealers by me. I did listen to the O96's once at ILS, but I committed the cardinal sin of not setting up an appointment, so I was left in their nice demo room for a few minutes listening to some music that I didn't really care for and couldn't formulate a good impression of the speakers. Those O's were mated to a Masseto and Cortese combo, and the 301 player. There was a Hendrix album I was dying to spin but I dared not touch that $30k turntable for fear of breaking it!

A few more hrs. and more improvements. CFz, I have Super 8's with a Leben
300xs. I love my Leben. It is my favourite pc. of equipment. Have never heard them but I would assume the Nines are 8's on steroids. I would have to say the O/96s are in a different league. Buy the O's for now. I'm certain they would work well with your Leben.

Thanks Dale! Glad to hear the Cortese is getting better with time. As for the O's, they are next on my list. Congrats again on the purchase.

I asked the same question of John Devore at the In Living Stereo Devore/Shindo event recently. To me, it did not sound like it was near launch. He said he was focused on getting the Gibbon X out the door and next up was advancing the O/98. I believe he said he was working with some ideas on the O/98 but didn't sound like it was close to commercialization. It was a pretty quick conversation so I could definitely have misunderstood him.

Best thing to do is get 2 matching pairs and stack them with the tweeters close to each other. Advent and quad pulled this off, I sure Mr. Devore could.

I think many thought I was being serious, but it was meant to be humorous ....I guess the drum roll didn't come across

Freestone, I've wondered this for a while. I've had my 96's for over 2 years, and I love them. But I would love to see what JD could come up with in a pair of 98's. The extra 2DB of efficiency would definitely peak my interest. And I'd love to pair them with my GM70's and 300B's.

Still, I don't believe JD has formally committed to anything on the 98 yet. If past work is any indication, then I will offer this up as speculation - any possible 98 will not arrive before Q2-2015.
