Classic Series Discontinued 2017
That is what a VPI dealer told me... I know they are doing very good with the Prime... But it is still a surprise.

Wow that's a bummer, I really like the look of the Classic series vs their other designs.

If true, my guess is it boils down to economics. The Classic must be more expensive to make, especially the higher end ones (like my Classic Signature). Fewer/cheaper to manufacture models equals greater economy of scale/higher profit. I much prefer the look of the Classic--VPI will no longer havie anything traditional to offer. And while I am sure the Prime/Prime Signature sound great, each model has its inherent strengths, the Classic's being pitch stability and excellent built in isolation (my 'table sounds great sitting on a plain wooden table). The Classic was Harry's design. I guess they're going for the younger crowd. While I think they offer too many Classic versions at present (especially with the Prime not being all that expensive and good price to performance), they ought to at least keep the Classic Signature in the lineup.

Agree concerning the classic signature, but my surprise comes with the Classic 1

I wonder how many classics they sell vs the former Traveler and now the new Player. The Classic seems to be the most talked about series on the web.

If this is true, the amazing thing is that it seems the Classic series gets the most positive feedback out of all their models. I don't think I've ever read anything negative about them, they're pretty much universally loved and the choice of finishes make them that much more attractive. Maybe they'll have a new and improved Classic series to replace perhaps?

Michael Fremer's recent review on AnalogPlanet may provide some insight. http://www.analogplanet.com/content/...RHhTjWts0R6.97

I just bought a Classic Signature and I chose it over a prime or such based on looks.
