Default From excitement to disappointment

Emocional “sign wave” today; I purchased a second amplifier (MC 275VI) to run in a mono block configuration with my existing MC275. After connecting everything there is no sound from the left channel that is powered by the previously owned amp. Well to make a long story short after a long trouble shoot session it turns out that my old amp is not working in mono mode. I never discovered it until now since I never had used it in mono. It has always and still does play perfectly in stereo but switch to mono and nothing, on the up side the newly acquired amp that could have had an issue since it’s previously owned works okay. This has been so unexpected that I feel that I may be missing something but a simple flip of a switch confirms it. Looks like it’s repair time for me.

is it possible that you connected the input to the LEFT amplifier to the LEFT input, which is not in circuit with the amp when operated in MONO? this would be a simple mistake that would result in the amp having no output ...

the input to each amplifier should be to the RIGHT/MONO input only.

ATC2-

Does the amp in question work in the mono mode without the straps in place?

So when listening as a single amp in stereo will it still produce sound when switching to the mono mode?

LOL...! Wow I feel so dumb yet delighted at the same time. That was it, thank you sooo... much. I had just removed it from the shelve to take it to the shop when I read your post. It is even labeled on the amp as such, but because of the polished surface and side view angel I can barely see the word “mono” added to the obviousness that it’s my first mono block set up. Another audiophile rescue by the forum, thanks damacman and all that showed interest It greatly appreciated.

lol - glad it was a simple fix. you're certainly not the first to do this - our brain says left amp is left input!

So, how do you like it?

I've often thought of adding a second MC275 to my system and am wondering if you notice a dramatic improvement in sound now that you are running two of them.

I’m sure we’ve all been there before with similar circumstances. I know I have.

Glad it all worked out for you.
