John,

That seems to be my issue. I tried every com port that was available but it failed every time. I might not have it set up right on my laptop. If that is the case then it is really a computer issue and not a Mcintosh issue. I wish I just knew this stuff better!

I did take a digital picture of each page of the set up menu so getting the settings back where they should be took just a few short moments.

mike175gr.......I don't have a USB to Serial cable, but a thought crossed my mind. Most USB devices and adapters require a driver for the USB port. Did a CD with a USB driver for the cable come with the cable, and did you install the driver on your computer?

Dan,

Yes it did, and I installed it. I know that it sounds silly, but it was fairly complex with a lot of options. (drivers for the cable and the USB to RS232 converter).

I think that this is where i screwed up...

Does this require a "null" cable? Also check the emulators serial settings (baud, byte size, parity, etc..)

Download USB to Serial Converter n/a - USB to Serial Converter
The only problem with the USB interface design is that there is no
way to simply open up a USB port and communicate with any device the same
way that you can with a RS232 serial port. Any software that communicates
with a particular USB device must communicate with the device through the
driver that is supplied with the USB device. Fortunately, in the case of USB
to RS232 converters, the drivers that come with them all emulate a standard
RS232 communications port so you can use the USB to RS232 converters to
communicate with any RS232 serial device using any standard Windows based
serial communications software.

According to the instructions included in the download, a null modem cable is not required.

John, I am trying the download site, but the software drivers download is not popping up and the mirror site is not coming up either. I purchased the USB to serial converter from an earlier link off of Amazon. I wonder if I bough a Belkin I would have better (working?) drivers.. Has anybody updated their software?

Cables To Go Support Page

Try this link for drivers. Be sure to use the one appropriate for your version of Windows.

Sounds like an Oxymoron, before you can upgrade your firmware you must upgrade your software. Before you can upgrade your software you must upgrade your hardware

Well, $16.08 for the USB/Serial adapter and $11.99 for a DB9 M/F cable aren't free, but that's a little cheaper than some of the other things we buy around here.
