Joe,
I just read the 2005 Stereophile review of the NHB-108, and the cool thing is it has a 100 K ohm input impedance! This means you could very easily drive it with a GAT with no problems at all as C-J preamps are desiigned to be optimal with power amps with 100K ohm input impedance. In fact, the reviewer said that he drove it with a C-J ACT2 S2 with virtually no problems at all. so, a GAT would work out just fine!

More food for thought. Thanks Stephen. The GAT would be less expensive as well. I do miss the sound of my ET-5 so logically the GAT would be the place to go. I can imagine the sound of the GAT mated to this amp would probably be spectacular. I should at least try it. |

Hey Joe Congrats !
This is a gorgeous amp. When you see that and it's packaging, youcan understand easily why Switzerland is the only country in the world that has a positive commercial balance with China ! Those guys know how to build upscale equipment for sure ! Having listened to the CTH-8550 integrated, I think that the big brother must be really good ! Enjoy !

Ivan,
Based on my (very) limited experience, I think it is very speaker dependent. The 911mk3 will drive anything extremely well. On more benign speakers, I may have to go with the Dartzeel taking the edge, but I need more time with it. The Dart is not as powerful. I have to try it on the CR-1's when they arrive. But right now, driving the Cornwall III's (I know they get a bad wrap, but they really are pretty revealing) I got the closest to goosebumps from any solid state with the Dartzeel. I do have a feeling that factory mono 911mk3's (especially on more difficult to drive speakers) may be the ultimate way to go. I do not like using adapters or Y-cables. |
