Have you used AnyDVD for movie rips? I'm still learning but my understanding is that you can't actually use your Blu-ray player to play the ripped movies as the players can't read the ISO files. Does that sound correct? In order to watch the movies you need to purchase a separate hardware player. A couple players that have come up are Zidoo and Dune.

I have seen AnyDVD successfully rip DVDs, not BluRays. Not sure what format AnyDVD rips them to but don’t think it was a .iso.
I have used a Popcorn Hour player to stream the rips or my SilenZio running JRiver or VLC.

I have used AnyDVD to rip DVDs and to create an unprotected copy of that DVD. But I have not loaded them on my NAS. I was under the impression that AnyDVD is not being updated any longer but I could be wrong. |

From Wikipedia...
“The ripper module is based on code from Elby's CloneDVD. Old versions used a ripper based on FixVTS, but FixVTS was shut down by legal threats from Sony in June 2007.[3] As of version 6.1.4.3, AnyDVD has a revised ripper that removes Sony ARccOS Protection, Macrovision RipGuard, and other structural preventions and repairs both intentional and unintentional mastering errors. It ensures strict compliance with third-party tools, particularly DVD Shrink and Nero Recode.”

AnyDVD HD from Slysoft went Kaput awhile ago.
RedFox then took over dev of AnyDVD HD and also has *very* limited 4K support. But any regular BD can be ripped and stored/streamed just fine. You have the option to rip as ISO or as a file/folder structure. JRiver handles playback quite well on a server such as Silenzio. Craig, you've got some serious capability. I know I've nudged you in the past...

I use AnyDVD HD and CloneBD from Redfox to image blurays to my NAS. Then use jriver for playback. CloneBD is useful to further customize your copy/image. Keep in mind that AnyDVD HD is used to remove the copy protection. The copying/imaging portion of AnyDVD HD in not as robust as CloneBD.

Good to know, thanks.
So what type of file are your ripping to, is it ISO or something else? Once the files are ripped and you playback via software like JRiver or a hardware platform like Dune or Zidoo are you getting all of the menus, bonus features, etc, essentially a 1:1 copy of the DVD or Blu-ray? So when playing back the experience would be no different than if you loaded the actual disc into your player? |

So I finally got DVD-AE and it worked great on my DVD-A discs and DVD video dics. I got the Blu-ray error that it can't read BD+ disc and you need either AnyDVD or MAKEMKV to remove the protection so I'll be doing that really soon.
So with respect to CloneBD, would that only be needed/recommended if one was to customize what they really want to rip and keep? If the intent was to take a 1:1 copy of every DVD and Blu-ray would AnyDVD HD by itself do the job? If ripping and customizing both DVD and Blu-rays do you need both CloneBD and CloneDVD or can CloneBD also rip DVD's thus you only need CloneBD? Finally what's typically the better format to rip movies to for better compatibility, ISO files or the folder/file structure? Thanks Last edited by Rod#S; 09-13-2018 at 12:47 PM. |
