Default Quatros will be here in a couple of weeks

Curious what speaker cables people are using with their Vandersteens. I will be have a new pair of Quatros here shortly and am probably going to upgrade my speaker cables as well. My current cables (Cardas Cross) won't work because of the size of the Cardas spades so I either get them re-terminated or upgrade. I think there may be better alternatives to the Cardas. I hear a lot about Audioquest...any opinions? I contacted the Cable Company and they recommend I try out Audioquest, Purist Audio and Analysis Plus. My local dealer (Audio Concepts in Dallas) has yet to make a recommendation but I think they sell Nordost, Kimber, Transparent and Shunyata.

I would appreciate input from owners. BTW, my budget is under $2000 for a 9 ft pair of bi-wire cables.

Thanks
Randy

I am using AudioQuest CastleRock cables. Around $1500 for an 8 ft pair terminated with Bi-Wire spades on my Treo CT's. I am very pleased with the cable.

Is Richard bringing them with him when he visits AC on the 16th?

I should think you'd want to audition cables, either at AC, or I imagine they might offer loaners for home audition.

I talked with the dealer today and yes they will let me audition the cables. In my price range they recommend the Transparent Super Bi-wire. They also have a deal on a demo pair of Shunyta Cobras. The Cobras are not bi-wired though.

When I found out my speakers would be here about the same time as RVs visit I did suggest that maybe he could come to my house and set them up for me. They smiled.

Just noticed this thread. About to fly back from Nepal. No high end audio here.

I'm using bi wired AQ Castlerocks also. Awaiting delivery on my Audi Havana Black Quatros. Can't wait. I will try new cables once all is broken in, but I really love the AQ cables right now. I can't afford the Nordost Odins which I also like.

Hi Ctsooner,

Congrats on the Quatros! That is a really nice upgrade from the Treos to the powered equalized subwoofers. The Audioquest cabling is a wise choice because the Vandy's are voiced with Audioquest and the synergy is huge. My AQ WBY Interconnects just sound crazy good with my Model 7 Mk2's. It is the most neutral silver wire I've ever heard.

Best,
Ken

I totally agree with you. The AQ cables are all so neutral. Wish I could afford the WBY. Maybe I'll be able to find an older pair lol.

Call Vandersteen or ping Richard via the Ask Richard page on their web site. Ask what his favorite wine or beer is. I think he actually might accept an invite from a proud owner to come over to the house and share your enjoyment of his pride and joy in your home.

My Quatros arrived at the dealer the same day RV did, but he did not have them in tow. It would have been cool to have him out to the house and involved in the setup but I won't get them delivered to my house until next week and he was only in town for the evening. I did go to the dealer event, met Richard and talked to him about my new speakers and throughly enjoyed his "seminar". Surely one of the most interesting men in audio.

Richard is coming out to my Dealer on March 22. It has been 3 1/2 years since his last evening there. I can't wait! It is always a wonderful event and very informative. I hope he brings the amps and new subs along.
