Jim,
Thanks for posting the link to this very interesting lecture. Puts the HiRes world in perspective. |

I have a love/hate relationship with Waldrep. He obviously understands the world of hi rez at a very granular level, but he can be quite condescending and dismissive of high-end equipment. I'll give this a watch later as I always learn something from him, even as he tells me I'm an idiot for spending money on expensive cables!

I found it super interesting.
I completely agree, just like knowing the ingredients of food items, know what the source material quality is of the 'hi-res' marketed audio makes perfect sense.

Found this on an album on Sound Liaisons website:
All the music was recorded in 96khz/24bit PCM and mixed and mastered in 96khz/24bit PCM. There are however two exceptions; Andre Heuvelman's 'After Silence' was recorded in 88.2kHz/24bit and is, for practical reasons, presented here in an upsampled version. Tony Overwater and Bert van den Brink's 'Impromptu' was recorded simultaneously to two different recorders in PCM and DSD. This is what we need for all digital downloads.

Quote:
"Carmen Gomes Sings the Blues" Original recording is in DXD 352.8kHz and all other formats are conversions. This is a truly exceptional recording and comes highly recommended. |
