I saw this pop up earlier today on a thread over on Reddit/r/headphones and was curious if it would surface over here. I'm interested to see what the community here thinks.

As a member of the LAOCAS, I find this very disturbing.

Is anybody surprised about the actions of the sales rep? It’s an act that goes back thousands of years. Shame on those that condone it.

I think LOACAS reaction is predictable and wrong. Not the first time a demo has been exposed as suspect...

Interesting read. I was unfamiliar with the HD Challenge or the Audioquest HDMI conundrum. Also interesting to read that the author, a proponent of High Resolution audio, is willing to question his defence of Hi Rez versus a regular CD.
So much information available on line these days that it is harder for folks to get away with stuff. |

I don’t know. This guy is a stir the pot kind of guy. Obviously a very smart guy who knows his stuff inside and out being a very good audio engineer and audiophile himself. I certainly do not condone any salesman pulling a fast one and adjusting the volume control during a A/B demo which should be obvious to anyone in the room with eyes. On the other hand, Mark states that it is his belief that a stock power cord can get the job done as good as any snake oil expensive cord. And who needs power conditioners according to him. I’m sure he was more than thrilled to catch the salesman goosing the volume control, whether purposeful or inadvertent, to further validate his own feelings on power cords and conditioners. Boy, I wonder what kind of field day he would have with vibration control products. Maybe he is just too smart for his own good. I think I will continue enjoying my Shunyata power cords, Shunyata power conditioner, and Stillpoint vibration control devices ... if it’s all snake oil then I don’t know how to explain the remarkable positive benefits in my own system and that’s all the matters to me.

I agree with this statement. It appears LOACAS has turned into what many organizations turn into.
