Default Oppo 205 now ready for pre-order

https://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-udp-205/

Will wait for the reviews, and the first few firmware updates, just in case, if I decide to jump in. As the owner of 4 Oppo models (980H, 95, 103 and 105), not sure if I need this new unit. No UHD TV in my foreseeable future, so unless there is a dramatic improvement in the sound quality, I may pass. Disappointed that, once again, they did not include a larger display that can show album artwork, file folder names, metadata, etc.

Also of note: no HDCD support and, like with the 203, no apps (I will miss the former, but could not care less about the latter).

My feelings are exactly the opposite. I only have 2-3 HDCD recordings, but use the Vudu and/or Netflix apps everyday on my 105. Not sure why Oppo decided to leave them out.

Yes, me too. I'm not sure of the alternatives if I want 4K and good audio. Most other 4k players with good audio are quite a bit more. With a Roku added the Oppo still comes in at a reasonable cost. So, it's mostly just irritating. One more box, one more wall wart, one more etc, etc.

Default Oppo 205 now ready for pre-order

I have been wondering if the oppo 205 may be a good option for my system. I am not well versed on video processing. Just now jumping into that side of the pool.

I recently purchased a Yamaha CX-A5100 home theater preamp/processor ($2500). I have a 2 channel system (2.0) and only need the processor to do the following:

1) take hdmi inputs from cox cable box, Apple TV, and Oppo 203.

2) split off the audio signal into 2 channel (all frequencies) and sent to McIntosh C1100 preamp via XLR.

3) send the video signal to OLED tv via hdmi (sound and audio so wife and kids can enjoy tv without firing up my McIntosh gear).

Can the oppo 205 do this??
I haven't even watched a movie or concert blu-ray on my system yet but watching tv thru my Dynaudio speakers, well I wonder about the SQ of the DAC inside the Yamaha. I also wonder if having 2 preamps, 2 volume controls messes with SQ

Is the 205 a possible solution for me????? I see it has a (1) HDMI IN .... maybe I could hot swap out HDMIs from Apple TV and cable box into the Oppo?

Mine will be at my door on this Wed. Review to follow and I will take pics etc too. I currently have a 95 that has served me very well. I have a lot of Blu-Ray concerts and SACDs to use to even compare the audio section to once broken in, and or course ease of use, video etc.

thanks for the post!

Of course I'm very interested in this new model, with the anticipation of a 4k display later this year. Two things that I will miss is the extra HDMI input (I currently have Directv to the back and AppleTV to the front), as well as Darbee Vision.

Is "Dolby Vision" the replacement for Darbee? I'm not familiar with that technology (yet),

Dolby Vision provides a better 4K picture with richer colors and deeper blacks. Your 4K display needs to support it to take advantage of the improvement.

Thanks Chad. I did a little research on this myself. Now off to research which sets support "Dolby Vision". I've been looking at the 75" Sony XBR Z90.
