Thank you Bart. It was, however, an almost 4 year-old thread :-) ... I can't believe that myself.
I haven't changed anything about the system: McIntosh MDA1000, Monbrison pre, Cortese power-amp, Tannoy speakers and, of course one of the most beautiful Thorens turntables in the world ... if I may say so myself. Now that I realize how long it has been, I may be mixing things up and going vintage solid state for a while, however. The only drawback to Shindo, as with all tube gear, is that I am reluctant to fire them up for a short listening session or leave them on all day while I work. I have a wonderful McIntosh C34V preamp and MC250 power-amp. I'll swap components for a while and, who knows, I might sell the Shindo gear ... not because it's anything short of 100% satisfying, but because a really fun part of this hobby is trying new stuff ... and I've been missing that. Indeed Dan..
Will this be the inevitable relapse of that old incurable disease? Well... as long as you keep on enjoying the music Alberto, you'll be fine.

I would think of it more as a recovery than a relapse. An audiophile suffering from a state of satisfaction for so long is not a natural thing. This should be interesting.

It's a very different feeling than the GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) and it may not even involve buying new gear but switching around my main system. It's a more deliberate and unemotional decision to try something new (or old as in this case.)
I've recently replaced my Shindo pre/power (Monbrison/Cortese) with McIntosh C34V and MC250 (talk about vintage pieces, the first solid state amp from McIntosh.) The rest of the components have remained unchanged MDA1000, Thorens Turntable, Tannoy speakers and, of course my trusty Sonos now playing uncompressed (CD-quality) streaming. I've also put back into action the Musical Fidelity X3 tube buffer between the pre and power-amp. The results: Ooooozing deliciousness - without having to worry about tube life or heat (the micro tube (6112) in the buffer is designed to be on all the time and is conservatively rated for 100,000 hours (that's about 10 years!). How does it compare to the Shindo Monbrison/Cortese? Two different setups each with advantages and disadvantages - but sharing incredible ease of listening, no fatigue and ... deliciousness. The Shindo setup is faster, more modern sounding and more detailed and with better imaging and depth. Definitely more "hi-fi". I am still 100% behind everything I've said in the past in my Shindo reviews. The McIntosh C34V/MC250 setup is very relaxed sounding. It sounds good on anything and between the loudness contour and 5-band EQ I can make adjustments when needed. But for the past 2 years, I've moved my main listening area to the living room, where I also spend a lot of time reading and working, sometimes my system plays 10-12 hours a day and I really like the luxury of not having to even think about tubes and turning the system on or off. So far I am lovin' the all McIntosh setup with a mix of old (C34V, MC250) and new (CD201 and MDA1000). The MC250 is a unique and really pleasant sounding amp (50+50W with giant output transformers - which are technically not needed for transistors, but do something really palpable and delicious to the sound.)
