Hmm. Long ago in a different life, I set up way more than my share of SEs in a very wide variety of rooms.

I'm curious as to what your dealer does suggest given the list in your OP.

My room is similar in size to the OP, I had Guarneri Mementos, Amati Anniversarios, Amati Futuras, Olympicas III and now Serafino Traditions. All of them worked good in my room, granted for some the positioning took time. But the Serafino Tradition to my ears is the best sounding SF in my room. Relatively easy to position, great build and sound is amazing - air, details, articulation and no fatigue. In compare with Olympicas III the Serafinos are in a different league. I would say to me they are overall better than Futuras and Amatis I had before.

What is the dimension of your room? My room is 13.3 by 13.3. I have the GM for 10 years now. Thinking about upgrading to the Ktema or Serafino. But is concerned about them overpowering the room.

TommyC, my room is 12X16X8. What is your amplification? In your room either new Guarneri Tradition (great speakers also - bested my previous Guarneri Evos on all counts) or Serafinos will work fine. I decided on Serafinos so I don't have to deal with subs and wires that come with them.

Can you tell me more about the Guarneri Mementos? I have the OlympicaIs paired with two great subwoofers (JL Audio Fathoms F110 in stereo mode), but I would like something better. It's an amazing setup but wondering if the Guarneri Mementos is a huge step up?

Thanks for the input. No real way to demo them in my home, unfortunately, as the dealer I mentioned is over a thousand miles away from where I now live.

Bill,

The dealer in question recommended either pairing two good subs with my Olympica III's, or going to the Amati Futura's, as a number of people have suggested.

Update:

I've resurrected this discussion as, is often the way of the world, certain things have changed. There have been several family surgeries recently, all of which, very thankfully, went extremely well. Unfortunately, due to the wonders of Obamacare, you find yourself in the position of having to pay large sums of money upfront, for an extended portion of what percentage you owe, before the operations could take place. Due to that, I have somewhat less to invest in a potential Sonus Faber upgrade.

The new maximum that I can spend for a used pair of speakers is $10-12k, at most. That is about half of what a pair of used SF Amati Futura's, that were recommended by many of you go for, so those are simply not a viable option.

Are any of the older Amati's usable/recommendable in a room my size, including:

Amati Homage
Amati Anniversario?

I will also likely revisit the possibility of a pair of SF Elipsa SE's since several of you were on record as thinking they would work well in my room, have experience setting them up in a similar size rooms, and I have always loved their appearance.

However, I have had at least one Sonus Faber dealer tell me that the Elipsa SE's are consistent with what he termed the "old" Sonus Faber house sound. He said that the Olympica III's are part of the new, more dynamic overall sound, that still retains the magical midrange and highs that SF is famous for. He also thought that the Amati Futuras were the ideal next step up, which I am left unable to afford now. Will the overall sound of the Elipsa SE's be significantly less dynamic and impactful than my Olympica III's?

Thank you for any thoughts on this. Your expertise and knowledge is greatly valued.

John

The other day i saw for first time the Sonus Faber Elipsa Red.

What a beauty! Never seen speakers better looking than this.

Very curious to know how they compare to Olympica III as i am also a proud owner.

Good luck John!
