I think so too! Do you think you would consider moving to CLX at some point in your system? (apologies to the OP for the tangent)

I think I would consider them.

I recently have started to look for a replacement speaker for the Carver's and had thought about Summit's or Spires.

The only main issue I have is that I heard they do require a lot of care and work to clean the panels from dust and you shouldn't keep your windows open during summer and other issues.

I guess it scared me a little from them as I do normally keep my windows open and I'm just starting to get used to tubes and how to take care of my system with them. At this time I am really interested in Wilson or Legacy's but I do like to try different things so I will for sure keep them in mind for the future!

It's true that MLs benefit from a modicum of environmental management ... but nothing to really be concerned about. They are super easy to vacuum and maintain. I've owned a lot of speakers over the years of various types (Maggies-various, Martin_logan-various, Sonus Faber Amati Homage, Anthony Gallo Ref 3.1, Ohm Walsh 2, Apogees Duetta Signatures and others)... to my ear, big panels dominate wrt articulation, accuracy, and airiness. Though they do somewhat trail behind dynamics speakers in "slam factor". It's all about trade-off and somewhat a function of your preferred musical interests.

That said, you certainly can't go wrong with either Wilson or Legacy if you choose to stick with traditional dynamic speakers. Both are incredible. MY problem is that I was bitten by the planar bug and every time I install dynamic speakers in my system, they last maybe 3 months before I revert back to planars. WRT CLX... there's never been any planar that I've heard that comes anywhere near it in terms of coherency and ease of presentation. Magical and I haven't experienced even a tinge of upgraditus since installing them in January 2011. (and no, I don't work for ML just sharing my enthusiasm for the best speaker's I've ever owned )

Good luck with your audio journey and do keep us posted as you continue your auditions and decision making!

Cheers

With regards to cleaning the ML's, I have the Summit X, live in a very dusty environment, leave the sliding door to the back patio open all day & all I do is keep a generic "duster" handy & give the speakers a brush over once a week or so, takes about 30 seconds a speaker.

hm, good to know about the ML's and cleaning. I thought it was a bit more intensive but good to see its not as bad as I thought.

The hard part is always trying to decide what to do! I love the sound of ML's and ribbons. Just to me always sound more natural. Choices, choices, choices!

we haven't told you yet about potentially having to shower with the panels... didn't want to scare you too bad

I knew I wasn't as crazy as I thought I was! I had heard of owners doing that. And I think biasing tubes is bad.

I think the dust issue was more of a problem with older ML models. Current/recent models have a circuit that shuts down the panels' charge when not operating and that helps in keeping the stators clean. I know the older Summits had this feature and so do the Summit-Xs.

Good point, I had overlooked that.

Just make sure you've got your pants on before turning them back on
