I'm using an HP Laptop with JRiver MC24 to control the files. I can't get it to play DSD 256 yet--probably a setting issue.

When the MA8000 was the new kid on the block McIntosh published a white paper on how to configure the settings in Jriver MC20 for optimal sound with the 8000. I ran through it on mine and it made a noticeable improvement in sound quality. Check with Mac to see if they've updated it for the 9000 and the newer version of Jriver.

Hello all. I'm debating on an MA9000 vs. and my dealer's demo MC451 with a C47. A big factor is the available space on my rack. My concern is how much (if any) sound quality will I give up going with the MA9000? It will be driving Dynaudio Contour 60s.

I finally have the Ma9000 home . I have very limited listening with the unit. I can honestly say it’s not a huge upgrade from my previous setup. I’m sure a little burn in will give it a boost in sound. That statement was my initial reaction to the sound, it has settled in nicely and sounds wonderful. The phono section has a nice quiet background compared to the ProJect phono S I was using . The Marantz phono had a quiet background but was muffled compared to the ProJect . I’m still waiting for a MCT Din cable for the 450 but trough the digital coax CDs sound much more lively than they do playing playing through my Oppo 203 . I’m still playing around with different levels and settings and did hook my two JL subs up to the fixed #2 output . It’s not optimal but it’s working quite well for movies and music right now . I’ll be looking into some other options in the future along with different power cables , RCAs and phono cables. I will be adding a new turntable in the future also , hopefully a MT5. I also had some granite bases made for the down ported Sonus Fabers a while back . I’m happy for now Lol.IMG_1696.jpgIMG_1699.jpgIMG_1699.jpgIMG_1700.jpgIMG_0895.jpgIMG_1701.jpgIMG_1702.jpgIMG_1705.jpgIMG_1706.jpgIMG_1710.jpgIMG_1711.jpg

Mine is thoroughly broken in now, and I don't miss my tube amp one bit! I notice no loss of warmth--just more details and far better bass. I got the DAC to work with DSD files (had to tweak some settings in the JRiver MC24 software), so I am a happy camper!

I currently have a Marantz 7008 4k receiver for movies and tv with an older MC58 bridged for the front 3 and side two surrounds with the 7008 running the rears. This sounds good for movies and such but my focus is mostly with the phono section. I also considered the C52 but will have to spend extra to get a comparable amp that’s already in the 9000. My speakers are Sonus Faber Signatures.
Thanks Dale

Fantastic! Didn’t your DIN cable not come with 450?

No the dealer couldn’t find it so he ordered me a new one from McIntosh. The 450 was an open item on a shelf in the back room. I got a great deal on the 450 half off. I figure I could upgrade when McIntosh does a 75% cost trade in and come out ahead.

My next move is to integrate my MacBook Pro into the system. I’m not sure when I’ll get to it . I’m out of town for work again for the next month or so.
