I am now looking at the VPI Signature in piano black with the SDS power supply and the Cadenza Bronze. My local guy is a VPI dealer and I will need to do local so I can get his help in setting up the turntable properly. I am more than a bit concerned about doing this on my own by ordering outside of my local area due to what I perceive as a more complicated set up then what I am used to with the Rega. What are your thoughts of this turntable and cartridge set up? This is one of the cartridges VPI suggests. Thanks for your input before I order. Thanks, Jim

That's an excellent combination you're considering! I run the Cadenza Bronze myself but on a Nottingham Dais table and Origin Live Enterprise-C arm. The Cadenza Bronze is a touch warmer sounding than the Black, but they are both superb choices and great values. The setup of the combination you're considering is definitely more difficult than with your Rega. To optimize the alignment of cartridges with such advanced stylus profiles as the Cadenzas does require some experience, so if you're not confident in doing it yourself the support of your local dealer is certainly a benefit worth pursuing. Good luck with your decision and let us know whatever you end up getting and how it works out!

I wonder with this set up what the MC selectable resistance loading should be with the McIntosh C2300? Also is it worth moving up to the Cadenza Black and does the MC resistance loading change?

Would the Ortofon Quintet Black be too much a step down from the Cadenza Bronze (or Black (pricey))?

The most common resistive loading to start with would be 100 ohms for either Cadenza, but you can then experiment with lower or higher settings to find your preference since it can be a bit system dependent. The Cadenza Black is a little more neutral sounding in tonal balance than the Bronze which has a touch of warmth, but the Black is also a bit more revealing with its boron cantilever. Again the choice between the two is system dependent and based upon your preference to best match the balance of your system. The Quintet series cartridges are also excellent values, but do not compete with the Cadenzas which are significantly more refined and extended in range and dynamic resolution.

Experiment with the C2300 settings and use whatever sounds best to your ears.
The Cadenza series is wonderul. Can't go wrong with any of the Ortofon 'Black' cartridges. Start with the Quintet and add the Cadenza later. Never hurts to have several cartridges (says the person with six).
Purchasing local with support is never a bad thing.

I ordered the VPI Signature turntable this morning in piano black and with the SDS power supply. I have not decided yet on the cartridge or the cables to connect to the C2300. I may go with the Quintet Black cartridge for now to save a grand but not sure. What cables are recommended based on the rest of my system? Thanks, Jim

When I bought my Aries 3x3 and Cadenza Black I went with the VPI phono cable since it had the same wire as the tonearm. I have been very satisfied with the cable and it did not break the bank. VPI is now using the update Nordost wire in the signature line now - you might chesk with them to see.

Ivan: Suggestions for RCA cables to the C2300? Dust cover suggestions? Thanks, Jim
