I switched the power button off last night and today the red control Led flashes (blinks) alternately on and off. Does that mean anything? Unfortunately there was no manual or handbook included in delivery of my Lamm Amps.

Upon turn-on, the Lamm M1.2’s LED’s will flash for about 45 seconds or so till the circuit stabilizes and the fault sensor sequence is complete. If the amp senses a short circuit at the output or something amiss at the input, the LED’s will continue to flash till the fault is cleared. Otherwise, at the end of this 45-second cycle, you’ll hear a relay click and the LED will stop flashing.

Exclamation AR Ref 40 vs Burmester 088 for driving Lamm M1.2 Ref

Chuck,

Any comments on the sound of the Lamm M1.2 Ref with the AR Ref 40?
I have the Lamms for almost 5 years and enjoy them tremendously. I used the Ref 5 and liked it but ordered a Ref 40 which I just received but did not had time to put it on in the system. In the meantime I got a Burmester 089 CDP which I run directly to the Lamms and I have the best sound ever from the amps. This experience had me wondering whether to go with the AR 40 or get a Burmester 088 as a preamp. Any info/experience ?

First of all,i wish all of you happy thanksgiving.
I changed the tubes today, but the problem did not disappeared. It seems that the connection terminal is damaged. After i disconnect the connected RCA Cable the strange noise and loud hum suddenly disappeared, but it is impossible to connect any cable without creating that noise again, even if pre-amp etc. is not connected.
I inserted the two golden Lamm shortin plugs into both RCA inputs of my Amp with the same result, too. As soon as i touch and wobble the plugs a bit,the problem disappered for a second or two. The XLR Section is also impossible to connect, because of a very loud, strange noise in the moment i powered up my pre-amp.I think a input filter could be damaged or broken, because of this interferences.

I've had REf3, Ref5 and now Ref40 paired with my Lamms... I love the sound hence the 3 Ref purchases with the Lamms. Now if I had a Burmester 089 CDP with Burmester 911 Amp, I would go with the Burmester 088 as a preamp. Since you have Lamms you should see if you can listen first to both. I don't think you would go wrong with either preamp. The Ref40 is the best preamp I've had which also includde Mark Levinson.

Please forgive me for not reading the whole thread to find out how you acquired your M1.2s. Were you able to figure out why your M1.2s were malfunctioning?

I was wondering if anyone has used the M1.2 Ref or M2.2 with Magnepan 3.6/3.7 (86db, 4 ohms)? Is the 1.2 powerful enough or would the 2.2 be a better match? I am also curious to hear how the Pass XA-series compares to the Lamm hybrids?
