Interesting. Every Shunyata product I have used sounded great from the start, and then got better over time. On the other hand, it seems negative comments come from users of PS Audio power generators. Just an anecdotal observation from reading audio forums.

Hang in there. I have the same experience for all Shunyata products. In fact, I just bought a Sigma digital few days ago. It sounded excellent in the first few hours. But after that, it went downhill. In fact, it sounds very sharp now but I am sure it will turn out fine. Yes, the break in experience is not nice.

Bavarian is not using a PS Audio power generator from what I can gather: I guess the PS8 confused you, as this seems to be a Shunyata product although I am not familiar with it. I think the whole system might need some time - the amps are new IIRC, and Fremer said they changed over time. He found them soft and muffled at first, although I assumed that was because he was using a DartZeel preamp to drive them. To me, one of the most telling characteristics of the Alpha series power cables is a very open top end. Muffled they should not be, so suspect this is something else. Whilst I find the Z-Anaconda and Sigma HV to have a bit more bass weight and apparent depth than the Alpha HC, I would not call the Alpha HC bass light either. |

I think its important to understand that all power cables have more or less similar characteristics during the settling phase
Typical stages 1) first 20 hours - sounding close to max potential 2) 20 to 150 hours - severe drop-off with poor bass, shallow soundstage, bright treble, and generally thin balance 3) 150 to 250 hours - Performance improve slowly with lots of variation; sometimes bass is emphasized other times treble, with poor soundstage depth 4) 250 to 400 hours - Presentation becomes more cohesive, soundstage start to improve, micro details is more emphasized, but bass still poor. 5) 400 to 600 hours - Cable improves to full potential. Detail start to pop, soundstage becomes 3d, bass is deep and solid, and dimensionality improve dramatically I have never experienced power cables to be fully run in before 500 hours |

I agree that it could well be the new amps breaking in and settling down as well. Give it some time and all should turn out well. Patience is a virtue (although difficult for many of us audiophiles!)
