I had the MB50 and returned it after a few weeks - PlayFi was a huge deal breaker ... that app wasn't gapless so anytime you'd listen to a live performance it would separate each track by a few seconds - The interface was sub par and absolutely no customer service from the PlayFi support team ... response time of three days and they'd never answer a question

I love McIntosh but for digital gear I'd suggest a look at Aurender or Auralic and save yourself the headache

When buying a streamer, everyone should first determine how they will use it. They should also consider the importance of sound quality because it isn't a given, even on some higher priced items. I tried six different streamers in my system before deciding on the McIntosh MB50. It does everything I want without hassle and had the best sound quality in my system of all I tried, including Aurender and Auralic items. I don't need built-in storage capability, worthless displays, or an app tailored for computer engineers or huge music libraries. I just like to hit play, sit back and listen. I suggest trying as many as you can before making your final decision.

It wasn't so much the MB50 as it was the PlayFi app - The MB50 was fine but PlayFi wasn't in the same league as Aurender or Auralic for performance or interface - Also as I mentioned earlier PlayFi isn't gapless so live recordings get artificial pauses

If you want to stream Pandora or an Amazon library the MB50 could be a good choice - For Tidal high res even though I was hard wired I had issues with drop out - Sometimes it would drop the first few seconds of a track ... other times it would just freeze- Trying to access 24 bit files from my Synology NAS had the same issues - PlayFi is what broke the deal for me - McIntosh could have picked a better partner

We all have different ways to qualify performance and sound quality that's why the only way to evaluate a component is to demo several models - A brand name is no guarantee .... nobody is great at everything ... well except for Ivan

I must be lucky because I haven't had those issues. A definite PlayFi plus for me was the seamless ability to add PlayFi speakers in other locations of our house. That was an attractive selling point for my wife, and we all know that can be key to the success of our hobby.

Has anyone bought the McIntosh MS500? User experiences from the MS500?

I use them all the time. I have a huge house and need several to get wifi through the house. I can recommend Eero. Great units and fantastic support.

I considered several streamers and did a bunch of research. I chose the Lumin D2 over the Aurender, but at his point I can't remember exactly why. I'm super happy with the D2.

I have a new Akurate DS. So far very happy. No Play fi but I don't care about that . It has Tidal, which I have, and others that I don't.
