How would you compare the MT10 and the Feickert Blackbird?
How would you guys compare the MT10 and the Feickert Blackbird?
It's impossible for me to hear both tables in the same room, on similar equipment. I heard an MT5 and it sounded terrible, not sure if the cartridge wasn't set up, the table was vibrating, or if the integrated amp didn't like that record. It sounded like a blown distorted tweeter in an a capella record. |

Those tables are in completely different leagues. The Blackbird is by far the better table despite their list prices being so close. Setup is key with any table, which is more likely what caused your experience with the MT5. That table should sound good when properly set up, like most tables.
I would not hesitate to buy a Blackbird, but in that price range you have a lot of options. B |

Your dislike of the MT5 sound was probably due to the supplied Sumiko Blue Point cartridge, which can sound somewhat like a cat scratching a chalkboard.

In that price range, the ClearAudio Ovation. If you want to step up a notch take a look at the CA Innovation. Both are rock solid tables. The Innovation gives you more flexibility with arms and the option of 2 arms.

VPI Prime is another option. You really can't go wrong with most any TT/TA combo at the price-point where you are shopping. Many to choose from other than those you've mentioned. Am surprised that your shops only have McIntosh & Feikart. Most B&M shops that carry TTs carry at least 2 or 3 makers. Also, talk to Ivan. He can generally help out.
If it matters, the MT5/MT10 would match your electronics well. Plus, you do not have to go with the 'factory supplied' cartridge.

Second shop has Dr Feickert, EAT, and mofi. Both of these stores are dealers for other brands, they just don't keep them in the showroom. Last edited by Mouse; 03-07-2020 at 01:07 PM. |

VPI Avenger is 'about' the same price as the MT10 and, IMO, a considerably better TT/TA for the money. Or, go with the TOTL VPI Prime Sig and use the $$ saved to get a better phono-IC and cartridge.
From what I'm seeing in your signature line you do not have a phono-preamp, unless the vinyl rig is for your office system. The built-in phono-stage in the MA8900 is likely decent, but you could be held back on getting the best from an MT5 with a nice cartridge by same. The MT5 and a $1000+/- cartridge like the TOTL Hana or AT-ART9 would be a nice match to the MA8900. If you wish to stay with Sumiko, give the Blackbird a listen. Plus, you will want a good phono-IC like a WW Platinum Eclipse 8 or similar.
