C1100 Tube Replacement
Since I had my C1100 out of the rack to have a firmware update, I decided to replace my line stage tubes with Gold Lion gold pin tubes. I have had them for a while but never got a chance to put them in. I am very pleased with the sound quality I am getting with the new tubes. The stock tubes were a little over 3 years old so I am sure that also helped with my sonic improvement.
I installed them in front of the glass window below the metal covers shown in the picture. Hope I put them in the correct place. It was an easy replacement.

Paul.......Your line level tubes are the ones in the front panel window. There is one 12AX7 and two 12AT7 per channel.
The photo above looks like the moving coil and moving magnet phono stage tubes you see through the glass window in the top cover. The moving coil phono stage uses one 12AX7 and one-half of one 12AT7 per channel. The moving magnet phono stage uses one 12AX7 and one-half of one 12AT7 per channel. The phono stage tube arrangement is what I see in your photo. Looks like you will need to order some more tubes for the line stage.

Dan, the tubes you can see in the picture are for the MC & MM phono stage. The 6 line stage tubes are under the removable metal covers shown in front and are the tubes seen through the front glass panel. I should have taken the cover off the line stage tubes to show them better. I don't plan on replacing the MC & MM tubes since I don't have a TT anymore and don't use them.

came across this. good photo up there Paul. If you have more photos of the inside of the C1100, please share here.
But I wanted to ask... if one disables the phono stages (as I have done via the menu).. does the upper window tubes still energize and thus wear over time? OR are they completely de-electrified? |

Sorry Sam I don’t have any other photos. I just replaced the tubes and closed the unit back up.Unfortunately even though you turn the phone off stage at the menu the tubes still are energized and have wear on them. I don’t mind since I am not using a turntable.

Excellent! Much easer to study the situation now.
Beggs the question, how do you get those top mounted tubes out? Looks like they're sandwiched in that metal containment? Last edited by SAM992; 11-09-2020 at 11:50 AM. |
