Top 10 Vinyl Album Must Haves

I guess for Ivan the big question would be, what are your favorite 100 or so records? Then you can figure out what the best pressings are and go after them....

I lost my sanity a long time ago with about 7000 LP's and I'm the lightweight on our staff. Our staff music guru has about 45,000 LP's and our music editor about 20,000. Our other music guru has about 15,000 LP's, so it's a quick slope into madness....

How do you store 45,000 LP's in your home, or even 15,000 for that matter?

I've met a few record collectors before... Well over 10k records.. When I would ask when the last time time they have listened to a random record here and there, the answer was either "don't remember" or "never"... Of course to each their own but I usually only buy a record used or new that I would actually listen to. I've been given some older records by friends once they found out i actually still listen to them (much to their surprise) that I have no interest in and I can tell it is a sickness since I can't get myself to throw them out or go and trade them in.... I have to stick to my guns and buy only stuff I will listen to, otherwise this will quickly get out of hand and I will run out of room.

That is very true. There is a big difference between Muisc collectors that buy records to actually play vs record collectors that buy records, I guess sort of like stamps to build a collection.

I have around 4500 LP's but everything I have bought over the years has always been with the intent on playing and listening.

yes, it can be and is addictive trying to find the " perfect" pressing.

You guys with these huge record collections should sell a few to those of us who don't have 10,000 + records.

I know there are a few in there you haven't listened to in 10 years or so.

There have to be some duplicates in there somewhere.

Of course I think the happiest person in this hobby is the person with the most music, not necessarily the most gear.

I know Dan and I are two of the happiest. It is not the amount of gear, nor the amount of music. It is the amount of time we are able to sit and "listen" to the music we do own.

I have to agree with you there Jim. If you have 100,000 records, or CD's and no time to listen, then you have a music museum, not a listening room.
