Isn’t Amazon streaming still only 256k MP3?

We had an interesting thing happen with Echo/Alexa. There was an Amazon commercial on TV and the actor said "Alexa - buy more Tide" at which point our Alexa woke up and said "OK, Tom buying Tide". It only failed to order because we did not have "Tide" set up as a recuring purchase.

Determined by individual needs, I personally don't use Echo for streaming music at home, but its quality is perfectly fine at work in a manufacturing/warehouse/office setting, and works well.

At home, Alexa is a big convenience for my entertainment/audio system when linked with a Logitech remote, and controls many features of that remote with your voice.

Good common sense can alleviate important data risks when asking Alexa something, unless her mic is open 24 hours a day.

I like the Echo. I use it daily--to read my news feed in the morning and controlling several lights and switches throughout the house, as an intercom between the units installed upstairs and downstairs, for making calls and setting timers and answering a variety of questions, and keeping lists and updating calendars and providing order status of items purchased through Amazon.

Having said that, I think I can state with confidence that most audio aficionados would find its sound quality sorely lacking for streaming music.

I also like the echo. I have ten electric shades of south facing windows, sun detection operates them but Alexa can also control them either individually or globally. She also controls security cameras & lighting. Very useful.
