Default Phase inversion
I have a North American Modwright OPPO. Do I need to get a pair of XLR with inverted phase if I go with Burmester gear?

Can the phase invert function in the OPPO or Burmester preamp do the trick?

Depending on what Burmester piece, it most likely can invert to make pin 3 hot.

Given half the stuff out there seems to be recorded in opposite phase, it isn't a huge issue unless you are very sensitive to phase. But yes, either the Oppo or the Burmester preamp's phase switch will do the trick. You would need to compare to see if one is better than the other.

If it is only the one source being used, or all sources are out of phase, conventional wisdom is that you are better to invert the phase at the loudspeakers (both obviously, as you don't want out of phase, just inverted phase!). This avoids using the phase inversion switch in the equipment

When you're "out of phase" the sonic presentation/imaging/staging will sound more diffused. When in right phase, images and tonality will lock-in and sound more correct and tight. Nothing harmful to equipment. You should be able to toggle back and forth to decide which is the "right" presentation.
