Default Anyone know how to make a bias adapter for Cary integrated amps?

I cannot find the bias adapter to my 300SEI integrated, and therefore have no way to adapt the 1/4" bias port to the two leads of my digital multimeter. Anyone know how to buy the parts from RadioShack to make my own adapter?

On page 11 of this 300SEI manual, it shows a picture of the 1/4" plug used for the adapter with the polarity of the connections. You could connect a short length of wire to each of a standard 1/4" male plug's connections; standard practice would call for red wire to the positive and black or green to the negative connection. Then connect your meter as you normally would and you should be able to set it to the desired bias level. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks, that does help. However, when I purchase a 1/4" plug to solder, should it be a Mono plug? Referencing the pic in the manual, it looks like only one black ring around the male plug, which I believe is Mono. I think Stereo plugs have two black rings. Just would like to clarify before running up to RadioShack for a plug.

Since they're so cheap, just buy one of each. Good luck.

Yes, it would be a mono plug. A stereo plug would have three connection points.

You can order one with the bias meter for <$100 from Cary. I've given some thought to putting a second plug & switch on mine so only need to turn on the amp once to check the bias. I'm a bit of a bias wienie and check far more often then needed.

I made the adapter from a mono plug I bought at RadioShack yesterday. Works perfectly. Thanks again for the help.

Glad that it worked out for you! Good thing that RS is still open, but I don't think they will be for long.
