Default McIntosh MCD205
Friends, has anyone listened to this player? How do you sound?

AutoSky-

I have had one of these for 15 or so years. I am the second owner and never compared it to other players. I found that running it through the DAC in a Mc 2500 pre-amp to be slightly better than its built-in DAC and now the Bryston DAC to be again a bit better.

Comparing ripped CD's in the aiff format played on the Bryston BDP3, the Bryston can sound better than the CD played on the 205. This of course is recording dependent. When playing the 205 through a separate DAC, the COAX output is generally better than the Toslink output.

Over all, a very reliable machine. No problems. The changer mechanism (made by Nakamichi) was actually used in IBM servers back in the day.

I do at times think of selling it as I rarely spin CD's these days. A media player like the Bryston is more conveinent especially with a recent subscription to Qobuz.

Is $ 900 a normal price for this cd?

AutoSky-

No Idea; condition/number of owners/original packaging. Try doing an internet search for recent sales, if any. Also consider part availability should a repair be needed. This was kind of a one off piece so there may be somewhat of a vintage type following now or down the road.

I had an MCD205 and liked it very much, but you really should think about what John Jordan said about how much he uses his which is not that much. I no longer have a CD player and don’t miss it at all as I stream everything or I listen to the library I have stored on my Mac Mini. If I were you, I would take the $900.00 and invest it elsewhere.

I ended up buying a Mcintosh mcd 205 and will be at my house next week.
This CD player cost me $ 1200 to ship.
