De Bethune
And I thought I have seen it all.
Well, first I walked in and my good friend (the watch seller) showed me the De Bethune DB27, also known as Titan Hawk. Made of Grade 5 Titanium, polished to a shine. No welded joints, all from one solid piece, down to the buckle. Before I knew anything, he showed THE MASTERPIECE, known as DB28ST Tourbillon. My oh my, the second hand moved like a quartz watch, yet its a mechanical watch. The movement is known as "Dead Beat", what a name. The other unique characteristics is the lugs are movable and fit right to the wrist, all the time. Price? Wow! Listed at a whopping S$460k!  And I thought I have seen it all! Oh, I forgot the model 27 .... after seeing the Tourbillon. Cause I am dazed at such a price! I dont know IF there's any buyers (maybe there are, but for sure, for now, NONE) .... I suppose this is for display? Ok, here's the pictures. To share my shock! And the specs: Reference: DB28ST Functions: hours - minutes – central jumping seconds -Tourbillon with 30-second indication Movement: Calibre DB2119 – mechanical hand-wound, Hand-decorated mainplate, hand-chamfered and polished steel parts Jewelling: 47 jewels Frequency: 36,000 vibrations per hour Power reserve: 4 days Case: round shape, 43 mm in diameter, made of mirror-polished grade 5 titanium, Thickness : 12.3 mm with floating lugs in grade 5 titanium with pivoting system. Their springs follow the shape of the wrist and its movements Crystal: sapphire crystal with double glareproofing, 1800 Vickers Crown: screw-locked at 12 o’clock – adjustable in two positions Back: solid, hunter-type, in mirror-polished grade 5 titanium, inspired by pocket-watches Dial: silver-toned with hand-decorated mainplate and bridges, hand-chamfered steel parts, Côtes de Bethune motif, Chapter ring in grained and engraved sterling silver, Linear power-reserve indicator with jewelled bars at 6 o’clock Hands: cut-out, mirror-polished, flame-blued steel Strap: extra-supple alligator leather with pin buckle Cheers!
