I'll wager that Rafa Nadal got a "real deal" on the watch for its advertising value - but, what a show-off.

You could buy a new Bentley and a Ferrari for that amount of money and still be able to buy a Rolex or two to dangle out the window when you really need to strut your stuff.

(I know I'm probably wrong about the price of Bentleys and Ferraris - if so please accept my apology. I used these as examples without research - I'm still trying to figure out how to buy a Seiko and a used Volkswagen)

For US$525k, I could get myself a Mercedes S600 V12, a matching pair of Rolex Platinum and still have enough money to buy my dream system. Maybe you are right about the "real deal" as after all, the watch had his name "Nadal" inscribed on the dial.

I suppose when one is at the pinnacle, one can almost afford anything. Just look at Footballers, Basketball players ..... Tennis is relatively small in comparison in earnings.

Cant be envy all the time. Back to reality .... go watch Roland Garros now .......

Cheers!
Cheers!

Well these Richard Mille watches are probably tech marvels, but I seriously doubt these prices could be justified by something else than Marketing, Fashion and Snobism.
I am not a communist or even a liberal. I would be a Democrat if living in the US. But, to me, spending this amount in a watch is just obscene.

Everything is "relative" in view my friend. To some others, WE are all obscene as far as hifi goes .... ever thought of that?

Jerry, I don't buy it !
Obscenity has something to see with showing off.

What is in our home is private and not offered for the public view.
My friends don't know anything about my Hifi gear. I'm not showing off anything.
My clothes or my car are not fancy. I don't wear expensive and bling bling watches cause I don't need to show people around me that I have some money. I will die like everyone else, and I will be put in a small wood coffin, like everyone else.

Even Ivan's system does not seem obscene to me. It is a private concert hall / theater.

Half a million to watch the hour and have the people watch how rich you are, is something obscene. Just look in the dictionary. One sense of Obscenity is "the lack of modesty".

I think there is a real chance that Nadal has paid nothing for that watch and that his wearing it is strictly a marketing device for the watchmaker.

Jerry.......In my humble opinion, both of these watches are hideously ugly, and ridiculously over priced. I wouldn't go $3K for either one.

Give me the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in white gold any day.

Ivan.......I remember reading that you owned several Rolex Daytona's. I really like the white gold model, although I could be comfortable with the stainless and yellow gold model, as well. The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona is a fine timepiece. In the area of $12K and up, they are not inexpensive, but still represent some semblance of real value. They are nothing like the gaudy toys above.

My apologies my friend. Dont get so work up! Its a matter of perception. Thats why I never ever dared to mention what my hobbies are lest I be branded as a "show off". I only started to open up when I joined the forum back then .... AK ... and now here cause we are like such a close knit family!
