Default May need to look for new speakers - which ones?

Recall the purchase of Thiel CS3.5s back in December 2007 and rebuilding them over two or three months time. They have very deep bass and extended treble energy, but I'm hearing coloration in the midrange vocals. Some vocalists sound constrained while others sound VERY natural. Are they just so revealing, or flawed?

This topic was posted before but it was `moderated´ off into hinterland. What would be an appropriate loudspeaker pair for my system? As there's no flu or flu symptoms here, I'll likely be keeping my gear for a long time. Also a factor is moderate to moderate+ hearing damage in the left ear.

Seems to me that your speakers are fine. They should allow you to hear the differences in recordings. You don't want them to make everything sound the same IMO.

Do you have a price range in mind? What is the size of the room? Are you open to new or used?

I would say up to 2.5k and the room is ~25 feet deep and ~20 feet wide with some complicated wall and ceiling junctions. I was even toying with the idea of upgrading to CS3.6s which can be had for 2.5k, and I've seen handyman special 3.6s for about half that or slightly less. Some of the old Mc speakers like the XR6 could be a formidable refurb challenge.

Gregory.......I would suggest you audition PMC speakers, particularly the new PB1i, and the EB1i.

Gregory.......PMC has been known to break people away from Klipsch, B&W, Sonus Faber, and Focal. You could add Thiel to the list.

Well that's encouraging. A guy from work came over not long ago who was a guitarist. We were having some beers in the kitchen and certain CD passages would come on, and he'd look up in the air briefly, and I could almost see the gears turning in his mind. At one point he walked over to the wall opening and just peered into the great room to look at what or where that `sound´ was coming from.

I know this may seem odd, but I have found that the speakers I have owned that I liked the most would sound as good in an adjacent room as they did in the room they were in. My current LS360's do that pretty well, but the champion were Klipschorns I owned for about 10 years.

Klipschorns do that best! There was an extensive thread on the Klipsch 2 channel forum about "live in the other room" phenomenon.
