Are there any Shunyata counterfeits?
Really all you need to read in order to answer is the thread title.
My reason for asking is a recent purchase struck me with paranoia. I bought a set of interconnects (a popular brand) marked as demo from a well respected dealer. When I installed the interconnects I saw that one of them had a jacket pattern that was reversed. I suspected that this might be a sign of a counterfeit cable. I disassembled the RCAs and they appeared to be constructed similarly. I tested the impedance and the cables seemed to match. Now I was wondering if the jacket was the only difference. The other cable looked like a genuine but previous generation cable which would have come in the older packaging style. I suspect someone bought the genuine interconnects and then put different interconnects in the box and sent them back. After a call and a emailed photo to my dealer they did replace them with a new set. Since I buy a lot of my gear demo or used I'm afraid of something else showing up in a genuine box that's actually a fake because someone made a deceitful switch. |

There is always a risk with cables. I suspected my Kimber kables KS-3033 to be fake but I e-mailed them with the S/N and they confirmed that they were genuine. I was glad and thankful to Kimber for their excellent service.

Shunyata is a very customer focused company as demonstrated by their many helpful posts on this forum. I would suggest contacting them with details of your cables if there are any doubts about their authenticity. Many cable companies have warnings on their webpages about the abundance of counterfeits in the marketplace, some even with pictures that detail the easily identifiable differences compared to the originals.

I haven't personally heard about any counterfeit Shunyata products, while for some other brands like Audioquest and XLO they are commonly listed on some auction sites from very 'questionable' sources.

If you suspect a used product may be counterfeit simply send a link or photo with the serial number to cservice@shunyata. We receive many such requests and most cases prove to be authentic.
