Default A New Camcorder??

Who would buy a camcorder in today's world given the excellent videos that cameras now take? The answer is me. I realize it is an unusual move. After taking videos with DSLR's and such, I am clearly impressed with the quality of videos, choice of lenses, etc. BUT - I found out that I do not like the form factor. I much prefer the way a camcorder fits in my hand. I do not enjoy holding a camera for videos especially for any length of time. I found myself recording shorter and fewer segments just because of that. So I decided to go back to using a camcorder for most videos. Clearly the convenience of a camera that does both is compelling and I will still do that as well. But for most purposes I will use a camera for photos and a camcorder for videos.

After much research I just purchased the Canon HF G30. This is a great camcorder and for me it is a thrill to use it. Some may view this as a step backwards but I view it as using the right tool for the job.

I think camcorders make better videos than photo cameras.
Also the sound seems to be better from our camcorder than from our reflex cameras.
So I'm with you on this one Ladd.

You might want to check this out. I looks amazing to me. At 995 it seems like a steal!

Blackmagic Design: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera
Wow, this seems like a very good option!
It even has a microphone input.
