Default New Bryston BCD-3!

https://www.whathifi.com/bryston/bcd-3/review

Interesting review. I’m surprised Bryston stuck with the 4490 DAC, which I believe is also in the BDA3. The 4495s and 4497 are available, and other brands like Esoteric are using them in their transports.

Joe Frances

I had a nice long listening session with the BCD 3 and I think it is a truly excellent CD player.

I love it in fact. I wasn't prepared for it to be as good as it is. I am biased toward SACD type players, but this one is so analog; so life-like; so natural you can easily fall in love.

I have very sensitive hearing, and hate almost everything. it is not "bright" or forward or hard. I love the BCD-3.

I believe the 4490 is actually a newer chip than the 4495.

The D/A converter is not the holy grail in audio. It is a myriad of parts and factors with the D/A converter being only one.

4490 came out in 2014. 4495 was 2015. 4497 was January of 2016

My comment was based on the Esoteric K-01X and K-03X shipping 2014 with the 4495S chip supporting up to 5.6MHz DSD, whereas the K-05X and K-07X came later with the 4490 chip supporting up to 11.2 MHz DSD. I'm fairly sure AKS has since come out with improved versions of both chips.

Hi Folks,

As stated above the chip chosen is just one part in a myriad of issues that have to be addressed in building a state of the art digital playback product.

Hi Bryston

Just purchased last week. I now have 1200 new CDs to listen too.

Absolutely astounded by this product.

Thank you.
