Not good judgment from Mr. Fremer. Whatever point he wanted to make is hidden by the delivery.

Gary Margolis said this in the comments: "Yes, when you compare some CD releases to the vinyl releases of the same music, the vinyl can sound better, but that is often because the mastering for vinyl has much better dynamics than the mastering for CD."
Great point, and the article fails to address this. High resolution digital can capture ALL of the dynamics of a snare drum. Nice to know, but unhelpful when the recording engineer flattens the dynamics at "max" across the board for the iPod market. Suddenly the dynamic limitations of vinyl start to look very attractive by comparison. I buy a lot of music on vinyl. Sometimes the recording is worse than the CD. Usually not, but it can happen. Good thing there is a good CD player in my system. Sometimes I listen to music that I don't have on CD or that cannot be had on CD. Good thing I have a good turntable next to the good CD player. High quality vinyl playback is relevant for people who want good sound. So is high quality digital playback, in my opinion. Neither is obsolete. Both matter.

Vinyl doesn't suck but it's easily overtaken by digital these days. IMHO

My digital sounds wonderful, but when my friends come over, they always tell me my vinyl sounds better. Sometimes I agree. Thing is... I have 5 times as much money in my digital as analog.

I do now enjoy listening to CDs, technology has reached a point where I'm content to listen to well recorded & mastered CDs. I've always been happy with LPs, I don't care about the inherent distortions or limited dynamic range, to me its always sounded the nearest to live music.

I agree completely. I'm disinterested in argument by insult or profanity.

Just spent 15 minutes reading through the comments. It really got tiring very quickly and Mr. Framer didn't do himself any favors here. I give him credit for the amount of energy he put into the ongoing responses.

Yea, I am surprised, took the bait, hook line and sinker. He obviously feels the need to defend, but the entire debate is getting old and tiring.
