My fiend has the same set-up as JMD. I just listened to some tunes at his house last night and they sound tremendous with ModWright pre-amp (LS100?) and Rogue Cronus Magnum...
I too would strongly suggest a trip to Verona - you will be happy that you did. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck in your quest!

Well it has been almost five years now and still have the Vandersteen 2 CE Sig II. These speakers are so musical and specially now that I got the new LYRA Delos cart it makes it even more harder to replace these speakers.

A potentially useful tip for fellow Vandersteen owners - I installed IsoAcoustics Gaia 1 feet on my Quatro Wood CTs. They make a difference in sound. I highly recommend them. Front to back soundstaging is the most discernable improvement. The sound becomes a bit more organic. It's easier to discern individual instruments/vocalists. Lower bass note tonality is improved.

One thing to bear in mind is that some Vandersteen models such as mine have three speaker spikes, so rather than dividing the total weight of each speaker by 4 feet, you have to divide by 3 which means a higher weight load. So while Gaia II (speaker weight 120 lbs.) would have been theoretically sufficient for mine, the fact that three feet instead of four have to share the load meant I had to go with the twice as expensive Gaia I (weight limit 220 lbs.). The price is well worth it at $1200 for two boxes (8 feet, 6 of which are used).

Have you compared the Treo to the Treo Carbon? Readily noticeable difference?

Too bad Richard hasn't taken the top three drivers in the Treo CT and made an outstanding monitor from same.

Looking over TAS 2018 Editors Choice Awards and Vandersteen has 5 speakers on the list.

2000-3000 Range 2Ce Signature ll at 2700.00

3000-50000. Range. 3A Signature at 4975.00

5000-10000 Range Treo CT 8400.00

After 10 grand they just list speakers

Default Quatro CT

Although I have been a Magnepan fan for many years (and still am), I have always admired Vandersteen's.

I recently had the opportunity to hear some new Quatro CT’s that had less than 10 hours on them. Overall, the sound was very good but I am sure they still have room for improvement as they break-in. Even with so few hours on them, the time alignment shined through with the great clarity and speed of the sound. I suspect a big part of it is the absence of smearing due to time/phase alignment. Also, it was refreshing to hear bass that was well integrated with the mids and tuned to the room.

I am considering them for a large living area where the Magnepan aesthetic just won't work. For those who have recently been through the break-in process with Quatros, any comments on the sound ‘new versus broken-in’ is appreciated.
