I believe that's their new headphone amp. Mike is probably beta testing that, as he said he did with the headphones. Just a guess. Scott

I think you should have placed a mic between the ear cups and played some music so we could hear what they sound like.

That's their upcoming DAC/amp with balanced in/outs. Still beta testing right now.

Well, I just got these. I've had Senn HD800's, 700's, Beyerdynamic T1's and T5p's. I still like the Beyers better than the Senns, but the new Oppos are very very good. I do prefer the oppo over the Senns. Smoother extended bass, not as analytical as the 800's, but everything is still there. Very very comfortable and light. Driven through a Beyerdynamic A1 amp connected un-balanced to the Oppo105. I bought these for my computer audio at the office, and will continue with critical home listening with the T1's, to me the T1's take the cake over anything I've used in the past. Perhaps the Oppos don't match as well with the A1 amp. I have the Bryston amp and will try it later. These are very very good and will be a great addition to my computer audio setup at work. I think Oppo has hit another home run with these cans. Can't wait to pair them with their new headphone amp, set to be released later this month.

I ended up returning the PM-1s...they weren't for me. I think the bass punch is better with the Oppos compared to the HD800s, but with the Senns I can hear the individual notes better. Also, the Oppos' top end was rolled off too much for me. Granted, the HD800s can be too analytical on some recordings, but I prefer the treble to have more details and more "sparkle". Case in point, if there are finger clicks on a recording I want to hear the SNAP of thumb and finger...the HD800s have that "SNAP!" the Oppos are more like "snap".
There are a lot of folks on head-fi that love these cans, so I seem to be in the minority. If you're looking for a new set of headphones, they are definitely worth checking out. As for me, from what I've read on the forums at head-fi, the upcoming HiFiMan HE560s may be more to my liking...close to the HD800's in terms of treble detail, a comparable mid-range, but with bass that has has more kick/punch and is more cohesive with the overall sound of the 'can. Got the HE560s on pre-order, hopefully they'll be in house soon. |
