I agree with Ivan. I only use the CD section to import music and a previous update by Olive has the disc eject automatically after importing. I have never has an issue.

There was an update that generated issues playing 24/88 discs but that was quickly resolved. Other than that is is nice to have a unit that can play all of the hi rez formats via its DAC's or output them to the DAC of your choice.

I have always had great luck with customer support with a live person answering whenever I called during West Coast business hours. Recently I tired to order a replacement wireless antenna that I broke while moving gear around. They just sent me one for free.

I certainly love the concept on paper and as I figured, I knew this crew around here would tell it to me straight.

If I go down this road I'm someone that's always going to be buying discs but on its own the digital music side has just grown and will also continue to grow so having some kind of device that lets me marry it conveniently like an Olive product would do be nice.

Basically I'm considering a 4HD vs. possibly a Bryston BDP-1 vs just going with an Oppo 93 and a USB external drive.

Eric -

Welcome to AA.

I thought of the Olive but decided to go in a different direction. My concern is with their proprietary system. At this point, I'm considering two options for computer audio - Bryston BDP-1 or Mac Mini with Pure Music.

My 2 cents.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the welcome.

I've seen people on other forums and places that mention using XBMC and being able to move files back and forth between the Olive and their PCs with relative ease.

Seeing that eased my concerns about the proprietary setup a bit but it's still something to keep in the back of my mind.

The Bryston piece is very intriguing to me. I need to research it some more.

Interesting, I have never tried moving files from the Olive to a laptop. Moving them from a laptop to the Olive is a very easy.

What do you all think of the Olives vs going the Vortexbox route? Pros? Cons? What should I be thinking about? Etc.

Thanks.
