Looks does matter when it comes to how it sounds...

Just installed a NOS VPI 12" 3D arm wand replacing a 12.7 (Nordost) version. Heard an immediate difference with a wider/deeper soundstage and heftier bottom end using the same Lyra Kleos cartridge. The 3D wand is an original version with the glossy finish, round to flat taper and a built in arm lift. Audiophile Viagra...so far, no droop! Wow!

I can understand the reluctance of some to go to a 3D printed "plastic" arm, but they do sound significantly better than their metal arms.

Considering all the nonsense "upgrades" available in the audiophile world it seems silly to dismiss something because of the material it is made from. If I feel the 3D arm doesn't improve the sound to my liking I will sell it, so I have no vested interest in wanting to believe it sounds better. It either will or won't.

Interested to know what you hear. I have the JMW 10.5 and am curious-- and don't care about substrate as long as it works!

I got the arm today, the ONLY mark on it anywhere is where you can see the finger lift was mounted during a prior cart mounting. Otherwise it is in perfect condition, zero complaints considering the huge discount off retail. Probably won't get around to mounting it until the weekend.

Why?

I noticed a substantial improvement from the JMW Classic 10" arm when I mounted mine.

Bill.......I am pleased to hear you are happy. What else matters?

I'm happy with my unique one-piece magnesium SME tone-arm. I have no reason to change a thing.

Folks used to fly in all-metal aircraft, as well. Today's jets are 50% or more "plastic" composite. The new 787 and most all new military aircraft are a far higher percentage than that. Times change. Wish VPI would get busy on the 9" 3D arm.
