Welcome. Is your 2A3 SET an Inspire? Tell us more.

Thanks, Bear. Still learning how to navigate the reply screen. Yep. The 2a3 is an Inspire. Found a lightly used one after losing out on a couple of auctions in the last seconds. It isn't quite silent, with the tiniest bit of transformer hum and noise, but it has a solid, gorgeous, and detailed sound, even with the Sovtek 2a3s and Psvane Hifi 6sn7. Hopefully, the wr2a3 gives it a bit more glow. Then the chase for the right 6sn7 begins. Good way to try to make use of some singles. Currently running it with Omega 3 HOs. Will try a small sub in that setup, eventually.

The Inspire collection includes LP3a, LP27, 17 watt HO (I think. It has the big transformers and long chassis), and the 2a3.

Nice Inspire collection. I too have an Lp27 and Lp3a. My 3a is a modified Lp2 with 6dj8 type tubes. I'm very interested in your comparisons of you two Linestage Preamps. Do tell.

Happy Holidays to all here.

If you buy a Yggdrasil now, it will incorporate the new Gen 5 USB input module standard. Mine was bought when it was first released, in 2016. The Yggdrasil DAC is just excellent, and this new Gen 5 USB input module will still improve it thanks to better galvanized isolation from the laptop's USB signal output.

The advantage of the stand-alone EITR is you can use it with any DAC with a coaxial input aside from the traditional USB input. The disadvantage, of course, is the extra stage involved.

If you have any other questions or doubts, don't hesitate to ask. I'm a big fan of the Yggy.
Musica Amantem.......Just thought you might be interested to know I bought the Yggdrasil DAC.

Congrats, you won't regret it. Just never turn it off (sounds much better when it has been turned ON continuously for at least the last 7 days). Enjoy!

Musica Amantem.......Thanks. I plan to leave the Yggdrasil energized its entire life, never to be turned off unless something fails or Schiit develops a modular upgrade for it. Several Yggy owners have told me to expect it to improve for at least the next 30 days. I know it gets a 72 hour burn-in at the factory, and I now have 33 hours on it in my system. Patience should be rewarded. I don't mean to derail this thread so I will bow out now. I appreciate your comments.

Bear: Please let me know what you think of the LP3a v. LP27.

I think they are both great and great values. More similar than different if not getting crazy with the tubes. The LP27 with run-of-the-mill 56s has been very quiet and more transparent than I would have thought. Where it gets interesting is with more unusual 27s. Mesh plate globes almost have an ethereal glow with weighty lower mids. Rolled off at both ends. I suspect there is some variation with these almost centenarian bulbs. I haven't found any that were very quiet, but I run them anyway. Just different.

I was surprised at how decent the LP3a sounded with JJs. I haven't rolled very many 6sn7s through, but 3-hole Bad Boys sounded great (I'm not sure the Bad Boys are worth what they are going for anymore, though). Tightened up the bass and brought more body to the mids.

To me, neither quite get to SLP98 or SLP05 level. They don't actually get much use, but I've had no problems with them. LP27 was lightly used and the LP3a was new.

Worst parts for me are the volume knob (just feels cheap) and the unlabeled inputs/outputs. Yeah, easy fix, I know.

Try some globe 56s. And the best 6SN7s we have heard at the Toy Store have been either the older WWII era Raytheons or metal base Sylvania 6SN7Ws or the new Psvanes...
