Default FM Tuner

Just spent two wonderful evenings listening to great local shows. Couldn’t be better. The tuner is staying.

I essentially rebuilt this McIntosh MR80 about 2 years ago. I use it occasionally in my office.

An MR77 which I use to listen to user-supported classical and jazz stations.

I still use my Mac MR-80 and have no plans to retire or replace it.

I listen to my McIntosh MR88 almost every night. I installed a Magnum Dynalab ST-2 FM antenna on a wall inside my audio closet and get excellent local reception with it. During the day, we enjoy it for background music while we're working or piddling around the house. Even with Tidal, Roon, XM, etc. in the house, it seems that I still discover more new music that I actually like with the MR88. It is a beautiful part of my system that I enjoy very much. The McIntosh MR88 is here to stay.

Great that we have a number of dedicated FM listeners here. Cannot go wrong if you have a good tuner/receiver hooked to a good antenna and decent stations. Think many folks get put off thinking they have bad stations as they do not understand the importance of a good antenna.

In Wisconsin, I have an MR 80 with a six element yagi at 30' agl pointed at Minneapolis 100 miles away. Fantastic tuner, we get most stations full quieting.

In Colorado I've got an MR 77 with an indoor antenna. We're surrounded by mountains on all sides here so pretty much limited to line of sight.

Been using an MR 85 for about 15 years connected to a Trek antenna up in the attic. On this mountain, NY stations don't really pull in. There are some good local and college stations on this side of the Hudson however.
With the availability of streaming FM from a laptop I think of selling it but as others have mentioned, a system without a tuner seems incomplete. It also sounds better than the laptop.

Multiple tuners here. I have an MR 77 tuner in my vintage McIntosh office system, tuner module in my MX-135 that is part of the main 2-channel system, and multiple vintage receivers (Luxman, Pioneer, Yamaha and Nikko) in various locations. Use a rotor-mounted Winegard nine-element 99" FM antenna on the house roof.

I enjoy listening to college and classical stations here in the greater Cleveland (OH) area. I probably listen to FM radio ~50 percent of the overall time I listen to music....

If you can try an FM yagi you may find it will reach out to those other stations. They are directional, so you can rotate to peak the signal. I have mine in the attic and suspended from the roof joists at the peak so can walk under it with just a bit of stooping.
