You might also want to take the tube cages off the GS150 and let those beauties breath a little. I don't think you have any problem with the amp ventilation, but with only the thin shelf above the shelf will get warm and likely lead to extra heating on your pre. Still, several inches above each is plenty and you have the sides and back open. I would take off the plastic top since your pre is not on the top shelf. You might want to put some StillPoints or other under your amp and pre, that will also add some more air flow from beneath.
My Ref75 has the top off, so it gets air from the sides and back as well, and the power supply of my Ref10 has the top off and I have much less room. Does it get a little toasty, sure, but I've not had any problems. |

After further investigation...
I have noticed the GS150 runs cooler than ref.6 with fans running at high speed on the GS.
Also found the cause of Ref.6 shutting down. One of the item on the menus is auto shutdown - and it was set at 2 hours. So every 2 hours it shut down making it look like a thermal shutdown. I have limited space on the rack - so need some suggestions for the cooling setup for ref, 6.

If I remember correctly, the Ref 6 manual says 6-8 inches of clearance. Also the Ref 3 Phono.
The Ref 10 and Ref 10 Phono manuals says 8-10 inches of clearance. The Ref 5/SE manuals: While the Reference 5 does not dissipate an unusual amount of heat, it is important that it be provided with reasonable airflow to assure long, trouble-free operation. The Ref 2/SE manuals may say it best: Operation of vacuum tube equipment for long periods of time in hot ambient air will shorten tube life and increase chance of failure of other component parts. |
