Default What brand to recap crossovers

I think it's time to recap my sonus faber's Grand Piano Home's crossovers. One side's tweeter is softer than the other. I think even the mid bass too is a tad softer.
I'm looking at using mundorf. The Mundorf Mcaps will set me back $100 for all caps for both speakers while the Mundorf Supreme about $180.00for both speakers. I'm leaning towards the Supreme since this grand piano has given me great pleasure these past 15 years and it would be joy to restore it as everything is still original. Thoughts?

Should I change the resistors too?

I can’t answer but I’m interested to follow your project. I have a walnut pair in the garage. I just don’t have it in my heart to get rid of them because they sound so good.

I went with Supreme Mundorf caps. Replaced 2 caps pers side. The person who recapped had some problem as one cap was too big for the board so he had to improvise.

Huge difference and improvement. Speakers opened up and there is a wider stereo separation. It’s like the speakers extended a few feet sideways. The top end widened as well. Overall it’s its like a haze was lifted off the speaker, a haze that I didn’t know it had before. The effect is like having thick speaker grills and you removed the grills. I’m sure the recap changed it.

I’m just curious now whether the supreme cap contributed to the improvement or if it would have the same improvement even If I just put in Mcap Mundorfs or even just radio shack capacitors.

pics of crossover after re-capping, see the huge caps on top of crossover, good thing its a floorstander so there's a big cavity

Allan.......Just be happy you bumped up the performance. No reason to second guess your choice of caps. Enjoy the upgrade.
