I had several Fisher receivers, 500C/B and 400. Loved all of them but decided to move on and stopped at Marantz 2325, 2226, 2215, 2216, Pioneer SX780. Kept the 780/2226 and sold the rest. Saw a Mcintosh MR78 on FB MP one day after work, up there 5 hours, looked great with original wood case, paperwork, shipping boxes. Got lucky and only had to drive 2.5 hours to get it. The seller was the second owner and was a big collector. Great price and nice chat about "old gear". Very happy with this tuner but can't find a Mac IA at a decent price/condition yet. Using the Pioneer SX780 for amp which sounds very good to me. All in all, wish I had got a MR78 years ago. Love the look of the MAC1500 but don't want to invest the money in one.

Back in the early 70's I bought a Sansui receiver from High Fidelity in Austin, Tx. I used it for many years and it traveled with me to many locations. In the early 80's I had finally worked a few years and wanted a new system. I went back to High Fidelity and there was McIntosh. They had ben dealers for many years. I actually got a bank loan and bought C29, MC2205 and MR78. Later on I picked up a pair of ML1C speakers used. I enjoyed this system for many years before trading it. Just got back into the hobby after a long hiatus and back with Mc.

My Air Force uncle had McIntosh around 1976. As a teenager I spent a summer with him and had the opportunity to play records on his McIntosh gear. Don’t remember the exact models, but the distinct glow of the lights and the quality of the sound had a profound impact on me forever. I finally purchased my first McIntosh gear, MC2301 tube amps, when I turned 50...yeah, like forever it seems.

I have read through all of these post’s and can’t determine if it’s a when you discovered or a when you first got a McIntosh component. My first system was a Fisher system by dad bought me when I was 16, 1977. By this time, Fisher wasn’t making the classic items and most of my friends had Marantz, Technics or Pioneer. But I had a friend who’s dad was an engineer, and while at his house to listen to the new band, Toto, I heard my first McIntosh. Georgy Porgy on that system changed my life. When I graduated from college and upgraded my system in 1984, I still couldn’t afford McIntosh. I bought a Yamaha integrated, Denon Turntable and second generation Yamaha CD player. I had that system for the most part until 2006, when a power surge in my home fried all the electronics in it. A neighbor cut through the main line to my house with a backhoe. I finally said, McIntosh it will be! I’ve owned various integrated, the MDA 1000, tuners, Preamps over the past 15 years. I just ordered an upgrade for my Pre, the C-2700. I can’t imagine not having A McIntosh system. If I could have only known at 16 my love affair with that sound.

I don’t have a second and third system like did at one point. My kids have those, mainly Marantz receivers that I had refurbished (beautiful) and various speakers I’ve tried. I must admit that while I’m still in the process of upgrading my main system, a see a second system coming together someday. I love the look of those Accuphase components. Never heard one though. Anyone want to play Georgy Porgy for me on one?

Have McIntosh gone woke ?

Received an email today from them wishing me “Happy Holidays”. No mention of Christmas which is why we’re having the holidays. Are they too scared to offend the PC brigade ? Do they think mentioning Christmas is offensive

I don’t have a problem with them saying “Happy Eid” or “Happy Dewali”. Come on McIntosh wish us all a Happy Christmas.

Even 76% of Canadians think that Political Correctness has gone too far. That's saying something right there!

Default I don't know about Mac Labs...

...but here's one Mac lover who's willing to wish all of my fellow AAF members a very Merry Christmas.
