Modwright will be demoing a 105D at THE Show Newport. The demo sample will also be for sale at a discount.

It WILL be worth your while to search out a well-matched pair of NOS TungSol oval ("round") plate 6SN7's.

The Psvane CV-181's Black Bottle's are nice sounding in the tube mod as well. I've used the Sophia's in the three Modwright players I've owned with great results.

A new member to the forum, but a long time Modwright equipment owner. I currently use Sophia's in my 105, and used them in my 95 and 83SE. I also liked the Psvane CV-181's in the tube mod. I like the overall sonic characteristics that the Sophia's give the tube mod.

Just curious how many have tried any of the renowned NOS 6SN7's, like the TungSol oval plates or the Sylvania black base 6SN7W's? I thought the Sophias were outstanding until I tried the TungSol, now I can't imagine goign back (although of course I may have to some day)

I have tried the Sylvania Black base that I borrowed from a friend, and I did enjoy the sound. For myself, I wanted a new production tube that I could use that provided good sound and reliability.

Many (most?) tube aficionados would say good sound and reliability are more likely to be found in a good NOS tube than a new production tube; food for thought.

My Sophia's have been rock solid for almost four years of daily use, so I don't have any complaints. I would agree that a lot of new production tubes are terrible, but I would not put the Sophia's in that camp. I don't think Dan would recommend them if he thought they were junk. Just my two cents.
