I've found the best way to get static off a record and remove any remaining specks of junk in the groove at the same time, is with a grounded carbon fiber brush. Zerostats will temporarily neutralize the neg. charge on the record surface, but cannot 'drain off' any residual charge stored in the record or, depending on its material, in the platter.

If the Nespa works as suggested, it's because the light heats up the gas enough to cause it to expand and disperse through the plastic (or out the edges of the laminated disc?) without melting the plastic (So far, no one has actually demonstrated the presence of such gases.)

One can however greatly improve the ability of a transport to deliver maximum data to the DAC for making music (and video) by reducing the number of bits (out of limited total) it consumes doing error-correction. Getting the disc to spin evenly, and eliminating laser reflections inside the plastic medium, yield the biggest bang for the "error reduction" buck, and you can kill both birds at once with Reiner Glass' Audiodesksysteme trimmer/lathe http://www.audiodesksysteme.de/index.php?kat=10_17_6 This device not only trues up the disc so it will spin without any wobble error, but at the same time bevels/de-glazes the edge of the disc, eliminating internal laser reflections -- it will improve DVD playback for the same reasons.

I've found the most effective audio tweaks are those which work for very obvious and scientifically sound reasons. With due respect to Father Fremer, I'd prefer to spend my 'miracle money' where there's a potential for better results - perhaps religion, or politics?

How can an LP be magnetized? It’s plastic!
The fact is that pigment added to the plastic during the manufacturing process is the culprit. The minute amount of ferrous material in the pigment causes LPs to become magnetized. Testing at the Tokyo Nanotechnology center with a IHI Gauss meter showed that after an LP was treated with the deMag the magnetic field of the LP was lowered from 620~630 nT to 572~582 nT (nanotesla: a unit of magnetic field strength,1 Tesla = 10,000 gauss.


There is at least one pressing that I know of that was done on clear vinyl instead of black because it sounded better.

Hint: not even two ten-thousandths of the force required to move a compass needle at the equator (see below) -- never mind that (any) residual magnetic fields in the **vinyl are distributed all over the record and are oriented randomly. The bottom line, with respect to any effect on LP playback, is that zapping 50 nT's out of a record will make about as much difference as pissing in the ocean

A bit strange coming from a guy who is a big cable believer, uses Purist Audio cables, claims their superiority over other cables which is fine but let's not forget the fact that we have to rely on our ears to claim that superiority not measured scientific evidence, yet when presented with measured scientific evidence of a product, dismisses it as not significant enough. Not having had any direct experience with the product to say yes or no undermines the whole theory.
