So how long before this gets hauled into court? Guaranteed there will be a suit filed.
.. I don't see this as a tragedy... I mean.. I feel sorry for the instructor, the stupid waste of life.. I feel sorry for the instructor's immediate family.. but tragic? Not at all. The owner and the instructor did not go into this with blind eyes. This event was entirely predictable. It's just an utter lack of a sense of responsibility. as Heinlein once quoted.. "Never underestimate the power of human stupitidy"... and at times like this, I almost feel like Heinlein was being an optimist... |

As a former 10 year resident of Arizona and avid shooter, I'm sorry to say that I was saddened but not surprised by this news story. Class III firearms licenses are not uncommon in Arizona nor are places where you can rent and shoot fully automatic weapons. Despite safety warnings, which in my experience are certainly not heeded by all shooters, stupid accidents occur.
I'll never forget shooting one day at a very high end indoor range in Scottsdale when a man, with his preteen son, set up in the booth next to me. He was a complete novice and had rented a couple of guns for the day. An employee showed him how to load and fire each and then left. The man shot the 9mm with no problem (but also with no skill or accuracy). He then picked up a 50 cal Desert Eagle and shot it, was unprepared for the recoil, and dropped it on the ground. Needless to say that is when I noticed what was going on, stopped, went into his booth, asked him to put the weapon down and not to shoot it again until he had been fully trained. He complied (he was rather ashen). I'm just glad he didn't hurt his son or himself - well, to be honest, I was really glad not to have my nuts shot off with a 50 cal. Look, I'm an advocate for sensible Second Amendment rights, gun safety, training and sensible concealed carry laws. I'm a lawyer that has represented a number of well known firearms manufacturers. I'm also an advocate for sensible gun control. But the incident with the young girl in AZ points out, I think, that no matter how strongly you feel about the second amendment there has to be room for sensible rules and regulations. People are, in many cases, stupid a##holes and frankly I don't want to fall victim to their stupidity (or criminality) or those who enable such behavior (here the gun range and parent). That being said, I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and the trauma the little girl is going through.

I just read about this.
"A 9-year-old girl from New Jersey accidentally shot and killed her instructor with an Uzi submachine gun while he stood to her left side, trying to guide her." This is just plain stupid. Why would anyone let a 9YO girl shoot an Uzi that can shoot 600 rounds per minute? I just don't get it. Last edited by cma29; 08-28-2014 at 12:02 AM. |

The only thing we can hope for is that people learn from this tragedy.
I fear unfortunately that will not happen. Something like this will happen again. Automatic machine guns in the hands of the general public?? The left and right can barely agree on anything except they all love one thing, GUNS? Nine year old girls should be playing with dolls, not Uzi's.
