That's a downer! I hope that you are wrong. Considering that we do software updates with our phones all the time and all settings remain intact, that would sound like a flaw to me). Anybody else who has done the latest software upgrade care to chime in??

Software has been a weakness for Bryston, but they are getting better at it. I just wish they would my buy mPod, and make it better for the BDP-1/2.

I am just very glad they continue to improve it. The BDA-3 has been keeping Stan busy, but he hopes to get back to the SP-3 soon. I have several firmware requests that I hope they will make. I would like to have a trigger to enable Zone 2 and there are some HDMI improvements that I have been waiting for.

I would also love an updated USB to do higher resolution. I think this require a hardware upgrade. I would love to test it for them!

I am not sure how to take your comment. If a company puts out ten products, they should be able to maintain ALL of them. That means that they should have more than one "Stan" to maintain their entire product line.

They have a bunch of people and they have great customer support. I have just talked to Stan a few times and was very impressed. Like any company they have to balance priorities and allowing the second Zone to drive a trigger was not as important as a new product launch - just a small product enhancement.

James Tanner also continues to impress me.

I have a Word-file where I keep my settings for the SP3. It's not much work to bring them over to the SP3 again.
In the same file I make small notes about why I did what.

The good thing about doing the settings again is that I have to do a run along all the menu options and by doing that I get the feeling to get them known better.

Today I contacted Bryston (Mike) and he helped with the firmware upgrade as well as a few general questions that I had.
I then proceeded with the upgrade.
A few comments about the process:
1. I printed a table from the manual that shows the system and source set up options. I used it to write down all my settings.
2. Then I did the firmware upgrade per Bryston instructions.
3. After rebooting, I found that my user settings did not transfer. Good thing that I did step one above.

Great customer support!!

Thats right, more than one Stan to maintain their product line so they can increase their overhead and charge consumers more for their products. You have got to be kidding.

I own a SP3 bought 2 years ago. How do I get the board updated to pass 4K signals. Should the unit be sent to Bryston? Is there a charge for it?
