Thank you very much my friends !

Many good advices here as always.
Jean Luc will read all this and will decide by himself what to do. I regret very much for him that he did not ask me where to buy such things in the US...

I think that calling MSS HIFI ( wow, I did not know the guy was only 29 ! I would not buy anything serious from such a young person ) and asking what's happening would be the first step. Jean Luc will have to ask for the serial numbers to check with the McIntosh factory if they are there. I suppose that this kind of service is not a priority at McIntosh so it could explain the delay...
If the guy is not able to give those numbers, I would first call the police to see if they can go see him or if they don't care, and then a civil action will come last. Unless MSS HIFI would be in bankrupt, I'm sure that Jean Luc will recover his money : USA is not exactly Ethiopia !
And Dan, I agree with you. Things were simpler in the old times of Far West !

I would suggest that just about any rumor you hear about MSS is likely far tamer than the truth.

Jérôme.......Look again at the date of this article. Johnny the thief was 29 in 2003.

Too bad Jean Luc is not "connected" in New York. He could send a couple enforcers over to MSS HIFI, pick up the amps, and break Johnny's knee caps while they're there just for the fun of it. That way Johnny would remember not to screw with Jean Luc.

If the amps are there Dan ! My guess is that the guy sells stuff he does not have, then, he looks to find them at a good price after. If he finds them, and he has enough money in the bank, he sends them. If he does not, and the buyer is outside the US, he takes a chance not to send anythink and wait.... "maybe the guy will be rich enough to forget about them and won't have the ability to sue me here..."
I hope I'm wrong and the amps are indeed at McIntosh. I think we'll know about that shortly.

I missed the date : thanks. So he's 37 now.

How much does your friend want to spend? I can put you in touch with a top tier litigator, but it will run > $800/hour.

It is not a "rumor" that he was kicked off Audiogon.

He spent 13000 euros. I suppose that he could spend some money to get them back but if it costs 6000 euros, well, that will be a problem.
Now I don't know anything aboutthe US system but in France, the cost of the lawyer will ultimately be paid by the defendant if he looses the trial.
